Always Under Construction
When life shifts the blueprint – building for what’s next
The foundations I trusted shifted. Plans I held for years suddenly didn’t fit anymore. And parts of my life — marriage, work, and family rhythms — all needed reinforcing, rethinking, and rebuilding.
But the cracks taught me something unexpected:
Life can hold the hardest and happiest moments at the same time — and we can hold both.
Unexpected Detours
While I’m still adjusting to life as an empty nester, this year also brought a new role as Managing Director at Chartered. It asked me to move from focusing on my own career to creating space for my team to flourish in theirs. It stretched me, but also became one of the most rewarding parts of my year.
And then came the part I never anticipated — challenges in my marriage. It forced me to sit with uncertainty, vulnerability, and grief… while still holding hope.
But life also brought so much joy.
My grandson, Jordi, turned one — with the sweetest Under Construction theme — and he lights up my world.
And my children? They are flourishing.
- Gabi completed her second year of Engineering.
- Josh is thriving in the corporate world.
- Ryan is building his business with vision and entrepreneurial courage.
And, of course, there were many incredible adventures, travels, and connections with people I love.

And this is the reality of midlife.
Two things can be true at the same time.
We can feel stretched and grateful.
We can rebuild and live fully in the process.
Life Under Construction
I’ve created vision boards for as long as I can remember. I still believe in dreaming, planning, and designing your life with intention.
But this year reminded me of something important:
A vision is a direction – not a guarantee.
Life shifts. Circumstances change. And sometimes the path we planned no longer fits the person we are becoming.
Recalibration is simply the conversation between the life you imagined and the life you’re living now.
It’s understanding that clarity often comes after the step, not before it.
Recalibration is also not about choosing one thing over another.
It’s learning to live in the AND.
- I can be proud of my children and feel unsure about other parts of my life.
- I can be stretched at work and excited about what I’m building.
- I can care deeply for others and make space for myself.
- I can experience loss and welcome new beginnings.
The AND makes room for our full humanity.
And when we allow that, resilience grows.
Some chapters expand us. Others reshape us. And some — like mine this year — do both.
The Lessons I’m Taking Forward
- Life shifts, and you can shift with it.
Clarity doesn’t come before the next step. It often comes because you took the step. - You are allowed to live in the AND.
You can grieve one part of your life and celebrate another.
You can feel lost and still lead with purpose. - Vision matters — but so does flexibility.
Your vision board guides you, but life will keep inviting you to adjust as you grow.
A Reflection for You
As you enter the holiday season and prepare for a new year, ask yourself:
- Which part of my life feels under construction right now?
- What am I rebuilding?
- What am I becoming?
- Where can I choose AND instead of either/or?
Always remember, when it comes to your money, be inspired, be brave, and be on purpose.
